Tokyo Anime fair announces winners

The Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF), the world biggest trade fair for toons, has presented “Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone” with its Animation of the Year award, organizers announced on Monday.The toon, the latest feature installment in the Hideaki Anno TV/pic franchise about teens who pilot giant robots against alien invaders, was a hit last year for distrib Klockworx, finishing with a series high of $19 million.

This quintessential Japanese modern art form found a worldwide audience, and its impact has been pervasive. Its popularity led the animation market to grow exponentially, 2.5-fold in the past 15 years.

Yet, for all its success, the world of Japanese animation is in danger. One reason is that it is a labor-intensive process. Because of this, there is a growing trend to outsource production to Asian countries.

Anime channel widens overseas network

Satellite channel Animax is preparing to celebrate its 10th anniversary as it continues to introduce Japanese animation to viewers around the world.

The channel claims a viewership of 41 million households in Japan and 46 other countries, though the channel is included in basic packages for cable and satellite services.

In commemoration of the anniversary, the broadcaster will air its newest original anime series from July, the month it began broadcasting.

Animax Broadcast Japan Inc. in Minato Ward, Tokyo, was established in May 1998 as a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment and started broadcasting in July that year.

The game will go by the name X-Blades – which sounds a bit generic for an anime title in all honesty.

Author Gives Bible a Twist of Manga

The world’s most-read book has been reproduced yet again, and this time in a style known as Japanese manga, closely associated with anime.Ajinbayo “Siku” Akinsuku is author and illustrator of The Manga Bible. He says he reproduced the Bible using the popular animation style to keep the religious message relevant to younger generations.

Harukaze Bitter Bop is a fantastic new series with lots of action and a ton of humor, centered around a mix of quirky characters.

Chiyoharu used to be a troublemaker at his school, but now he’s the school outcast. When a fire set by him and his closest friends got out of control, everyone was expelled but him. Ever since then, he has been beating himself up over the incident and is determined to make it up to his expelled friends. But he hasn’t seen them since the fire and isn’t sure that they want to see him.

CDC Games Launches “Free to Play”" Manga Action MMO
