Among its legions of fans, Japanese anime has long been regarded as a defining element of what makes Japan “cool.”
This quintessential Japanese modern art form found a worldwide audience, and its impact has been pervasive. Its popularity led the animation market to grow exponentially, 2.5-fold in the past 15 years.
Yet, for all its success, the world of Japanese animation is in danger. One reason is that it is a labor-intensive process. Because of this, there is a growing trend to outsource production to Asian countries.
